Remote TV Setup & Technical Support

Most TV problems don't need anyone in your living room. They need someone who knows TVs and can see what you're looking at. That's what a WhatsApp video call gives us. You hold your phone up to the TV and we see the screen, the menus and the cables, then we tell you what to press.

Our TV experts work from London and Dublin and spend their day setting up and fixing TVs, streaming devices and apps. We explain things in plain English, at your pace, and check that it's working before we finish.

On a video call, you can show us

  • Your TV screen and menus
  • The remote you're using
  • Cables and the back of the TV
  • Error messages
  • TV settings
  • Boxes, sticks and speakers plugged in

What We Can Help With

If it's connected to your TV, we can probably help. These are the things people ask us about most.

  • New Smart TV setup

From first switch-on to a TV that's tuned, connected and ready to watch.

  • Wi-Fi and internet

Getting the TV online, fixing drop-outs and weak signal.

  • Streaming sticks and boxes

Plugging in, setting up and updating streaming devices.

  • Apps

Installing streaming, catch-up and IPTV apps and signing in to your own accounts.

  • Picture problems

No signal, wrong size, dark or washed-out picture, flicker.

  • Sound and soundbars

No sound, out-of-sync sound, soundbar and speaker connections.

  • Remote controls

Pairing a new remote, one remote for TV and soundbar, confusing buttons.

  • HDMI and connections

Which cable goes where and switching between inputs.

  • Buffering and streaming

Finding out why streams stall and what actually fixes it.

  • VPN setup

Setting up a VPN app on your TV, stick or box and checking it works.

  • Home entertainment

Getting TV, soundbar, consoles and boxes to work together.

  • Any TV question

Menus, settings, updates, or just how to do something.

Smart TV Setup Help

A new Smart TV asks a lot of questions on day one: language, network, accounts, updates, channel tuning. We go through each screen with you so nothing gets skipped, and help you sort out the home screen so the things you watch are easy to find.

  • First-time setup and software updates
  • Connecting to Wi-Fi or a network cable
  • Tuning channels and arranging apps
  • Settings that make the picture and sound look and sound right

Streaming Stick & TV Box Help

Streaming sticks and TV boxes are cheap and powerful, but setup isn't always obvious. We help you plug them in, get them online, pair the remote and keep them up to date, whichever make you have.

  • Setting up a new stick or box
  • Pairing remotes and fixing unresponsive ones
  • Freeing up storage when it runs slowly
  • Moving from an old device to a new one

Streaming App Setup & Help

We help you find, install and use streaming, catch-up and IPTV player apps on your TV or device, and sign in to the subscriptions you already have. You type your own passwords. We just show you where.

  • Installing and updating apps
  • Signing in with the code on your TV screen
  • IPTV player app setup with your own subscription details
  • VPN app setup on your TV or streaming device

TV Troubleshooting

We work through the problem the way a good engineer would: check the obvious things first, then narrow it down. We help with buffering, no signal, no sound, sound out of sync, a picture that looks wrong, apps that crash and Wi-Fi that keeps dropping.

When remote help isn't enough: if a TV won't power on at all, the screen is cracked or there's a hardware fault, it needs a repair engineer. We'll tell you straight away rather than waste your time.

TV Help for Older People

New TVs have more menus, more buttons and more apps than the ones they replaced, and the instruction leaflet rarely helps. Lots of our customers are older people who want to get back to watching their programmes without having to ask the family every time something changes.

We take it slowly, explain each step in plain English and are happy to go over things more than once. Family members can book on a parent's or grandparent's behalf and join the call too.

We often help with

  • A new Smart TV that's hard to get used to
  • A complicated remote, or too many remotes
  • Connecting the TV to Wi-Fi
  • Finding and using streaming apps
  • Sound that's too quiet or unclear
  • Picture settings
  • Switching between HDMI inputs
  • Understanding the Smart TV menus

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get someone to set my TV up?

Yes. You can book one of our TV experts to set your TV up with you remotely over a WhatsApp video call, at a time that suits you, from 9am to 10pm London time, 7 days a week. You hold your phone up to the TV and we guide you through every screen, from first switch-on to Wi-Fi, channels and apps. You pay after the job, once it's done. If you need the TV physically wall-mounted or an aerial fitted, that needs an installer in your home.

Who can help me set up my TV?

UKProviderNow's TV Setup & Technical Help team can. We're TV experts working from London and Dublin, helping homes in the UK and the USA by WhatsApp video call, voice call or chat. We help with new Smart TVs, streaming sticks and boxes, apps, picture, sound, soundbars and Wi-Fi. You don't need to be technical, because we explain each step in plain English.

How much does it cost to get a TV set up?

Home installation visits are usually charged as a fixed call-out fee, and wall-mounting or aerial work costs more. Remote help avoids the call-out entirely. With us there's nothing to pay when you book: your expert sorts the problem with you, then we send an invoice once the job is done.

Why is my TV not picking up signal from the aerial?

The most common causes are the TV being on the wrong input (HDMI instead of TV or Aerial), a loose or damaged aerial cable, or the channels needing a retune after a transmitter change. Check the cable is pushed firmly into the TV's aerial socket (RF In, or Antenna in the USA), switch the input to TV, then run an automatic channel scan from the settings menu. If no channels are found and other TVs in the house have the same problem, the aerial or its cable is likely faulty and needs an aerial installer. We can walk you through each check on a video call.

How do you set up a Smart TV for the first time?

Plug the TV in, connect any aerial or antenna cable, and switch it on with the remote. The setup screen then asks you to choose your language and country, connect to Wi-Fi, accept the terms, install software updates and scan for channels. After that, sign in to the apps you use and arrange your home screen. It usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. If you get stuck on any step, we can guide you through it on a WhatsApp video call.

What is the easiest Smart TV for seniors to use?

The easiest Smart TV for an older person is one with a simple remote with large buttons, voice control, and accessibility settings such as larger text, audio description and clearer speech. Any modern Smart TV can be made much simpler, though. We can set it up so it switches straight to the channels they watch, remove apps they don't need, make the text bigger and show them the few buttons that matter.

Do I need to be good with technology?

No. Tell us what's wrong in your own words and we'll guide you through it one step at a time. We'll tell you which button to press and what you should see on the screen.

How does remote TV help work?

Book a time, and at that time one of our TV experts contacts you on WhatsApp. On a video call you point your phone at the TV, remote or cables so we can see the problem, and we talk you through fixing it.

What times can I book?

One-hour sessions from 9am to 10pm London time, 7 days a week. If you're in the United States, the booking form shows each time in your local time too. For example, 2pm in London is 9am in New York.

Do you help customers in the USA?

Yes. We help customers in the United Kingdom and the United States. Everything is done over WhatsApp, so it works the same in both countries.

Will you ask for my passwords?

No. We never need your passwords, card details or security codes. When an app asks you to sign in, you type your details in yourself. If anyone claiming to be us asks for them, don't share them.

Can you control my TV remotely?

No, and we don't need to. You stay in control the whole time. We see the problem through your video call and tell you what to do.

Can I book help for a parent or relative?

Yes. Book the session with the WhatsApp number of the person who'll be next to the TV. You're welcome to join the call too.

How do I set up IPTV?

Setting up IPTV needs three things: a compatible device (a Smart TV, streaming stick, TV box, phone or computer), an IPTV player app, and the subscription login details or playlist URL from your provider. Install the player app from your device's app store, open it, and enter your login details (server, username and password) or paste the playlist URL. The channel list and TV guide then load. If the app isn't available for your TV, or the channels won't load, book a session and one of our IPTV experts will set it up with you over WhatsApp video.

Do you help with IPTV apps and VPNs?

Yes. We can help you install and set up an IPTV player app with the subscription details you already have, and set up a VPN app on your TV or streaming device.

What if my TV is broken?

We'll tell you honestly. If the problem is a hardware fault, like a cracked screen, a dead power supply or a TV that won't turn on at all, it needs a repair engineer and remote help won't fix it.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with your name and booking time and we'll move or cancel it.
